Camp Meigs
Memorial Park
a Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation Property
We assisted the Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Meigs Memorial Association in developing an interpretive plan for Camp Meigs Memorial Park. The park is the site of an American
Civil War training camp operating from 1862 to 1865. Many of Massachusetts' Union regiments trained here, most notably being the 54th Volunteer Infantry, 55th Volunteer Infantry, and the 5th Volunteer Cavalry Regiments, some of the first official African American units in the US during the Civil War. We developed outdoor interpretive signage and sculptural elements
to bring to life the individual stories of the men who bravely volunteered while fighting for their
own equality.
